How to Clean a Memory Foam Mattress

Memory foam mattresses have become extremely popular over the last several years. Through the use of body heat and weight, these mattresses can help to reduce the pressure points on your neck, spine and joints, This helps to alleviate the common aches many feel from sleeping on standard spring loaded beds.

So is it any wonder that the proud owners of memory foam mattresses want to take proper care of their beds? One such myth about foam mattresses is that they can't be cleaned. Cleaning a foam mattress is actually possible and can be done using the following process:

You will need a handheld vacuum, a clean tarp, 2 spray bottles and white vinegar.

First you will want to use the handheld vacuum and sweep up any loose particles that are on the mattress. I recommend you use the fabric brush for best results. Once you have inspected the mattress thoroughly and have ensured that all of the loose dirt has been swept off, you will want to look for any stains on the mattress and treat them accordingly.

Now you will want to lay a clean tarp or painter's plastic on the floor and have someone help you stand the mattress upright against the wall. Fill the water bottle with one half cup white vinegar and one half cup of water. Then spray the mixture evenly on the mattress. You can then wipe the mattress down with a clean cloth. Now fill the other spray bottle with only warm water and spray another even layer on the mattress. Again wipe off any excess water with a cloth. Then turn your mattress on the other side and repeat the process.

Finally, you will need to let the mattress dry. You can speed up the drying process by rubbing a dry cloth over the mattress while using a hair dryer. Be careful to hold the hairdryer about 6-8 inches from the mattress at all times. When you are finished, simply have a stand up fan blow on the mattress to finish the drying process.

There you have it. A simple, yet effective way of keeping your memory foam mattress clean and tidy!
